One ritual, two bodies. The transformation, step by step, towards a new identity. How do you find space in yourself to change? And where do you find connection with the space around you and with each other? In The Ritual, Sedrig Verwoert examines his identity as something cultural, physical and sexual. Let yourself be carried away in this exciting duet with Alanna Archibald together with Phantom Wizard & Ranie Ribeiro.

WAKA NANGA MI - 2023
Vacillating between past and present, we observe Ewald at home. While his mother was hoping for a better future, he left everything behind to move to a new country. At home, he longs for the things he abandoned and turns to what he knows: his inner world. He focuses on his work as a watchmaker, while his past keeps veering into the present.
Premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2023 (IFFR)
Written and directed by Evani Gilds
Music written and composed by Ranie Ribeiro

“Each session we invite one artist to explore a specific area, and we hand you the chance to ask the questions you’ve always needed answering.
Every episode is available for free, keeping Footprints accessible to our entire extended community. Join us in person as an audience member, or stream online wherever you are and send questions to the artist via the chatbox. This edition: Rotterdam’s Ranie Ribeiro delving deep into his unique studio setup and production techniques.
After almost a decade in the game since dropping his debut EP on SD Records, Ranie has pushed and evolved his sound through numerous styles and genres. From Detroit-leaning deep house and soulful techno, to hip-hop, funk and contemporary classical, he’s a skilled multi-instrumentalist with years of knowledge and experience to share.”
EYE FILM: SHORT SCORES - 2022
“In Short Scores, Eye on Sound playfully pushes at the boundaries of film music. We asked a new generation of musicians and composers to create new mini film scores to accompany a short piece of film of their choice from Eye’s collection. Ranie Ribeiro chose In the Friedrichstrasse (1899?).”
The Kalkgraslandschap in the deep south of Limburg is entirely unique in the Netherlands. The climate there is warmer and drier than in the rest of the country, and near Maastricht, you’ll find one of the most beautiful spots: the Julianagroeve. There, you’ll see towering marl walls and find yourself knee-deep in tall grass, which is periodically trimmed by grazing marl landscape sheep. But there is even more beauty to see; you might come across the yellow-bellied fire-bellied toad along one of the ponds in the area, rare butterflies can be found, and as twilight sets in, bats exchange the caves for the blue-orange sky.
Sound designer Niels Koster and musician Ranie Ribeiro have traveled to the Kalkgraslandschap with special equipment and instruments to make recordings. With the captured sounds, they have each shaped a unique composition in their own way, which Ribeiro has turned into music.
